What Are Double Pane Windows?

Double-Pane

What Are Double Pane Windows?

Double-pane windows are commonly two facing glass panels set in a frame, they are separated by a small space, usually 0.5 inch to 0.75 inch wide. The little space might be filled with air or non-toxic gases, like argon, which can help improve insulation. Decorative frames or grids might be installed between the glass panels to give the impression of individual windowpanes.

Another advantage of these decorative frames is to make double pane windows very easy to clean, as the glass is one solid panel. They are also protected from elements which helps them stay pristine and clean as the day they were installed, no matter how old and soiled the windows become between cleanings.

The benefits of double pane windows

  • Better Insulation
Dual-pane windows have a lot of key benefits compared to single pane windows. Among these are better insulation properties, reduction of noise, and ease of cleaning. They can protect household items from sun damage with UV coatings and help you save energy.
  • Noise Filtering
With its noise filtering capability, it can block most street noises. These types of windows are ideal for offices and homes near areas with high traffic or grade schools. It can also be nice to shut it closed when the neighborhood gardeners are at work or for some time to relax.
  • Temperature Control
One thing to consider when picking the right window is the local climate, some framing materials contribute greatly to the insulation properties of windows. In areas with extremely cold climates, the outer frames should ideally be wood, fiberglass, or vinyl. Colder climates can benefit well from gas-filled windows. In areas that have warmer weather, like Las Vegas, aluminum frames can be used, and air-filled windows are fine.
  • Energy Saver
Another thing that contributes to the efficiency of dual-pane windows are the different types of glazing or UV coatings. For colder regions, the glazing should allow as much heat as possible, to maximize the warmth of the sun and help reduce heating bills. In hotter regions, UV coatings should keep out heat and reduce air conditioning use. High amounts of glazing can also protect floors, rugs, and photographs from the harmful effects of direct sunlight. In regions with varied weather, dual-pane windows can be designed with both factors to best maximize energy savings.

Mirrorland-2

Mirrorland

Because we know that many of our customers experience the standard 13 years of bad luck per broken mirror, we try to make the process of mirror replacement as simple as possible. Below are some of the mirror services we provide to those unlucky customers.

  • If your mirror is stained, old, has a crack, chip, or has any other problem, we can provide a new mirror for a small price. If you want to pick up a mirror, bring the pattern or measurements into our shop Monday- Friday before 10:00 A.M. and we can usually cut you another piece while you wait. Call before you come in, to confirm the availability of our technicians.
  • When remodeling a bathroom, mirrors are a must. The most common and practical application of bathroom mirrors is the covering of the wall behind the sink, which is the length of the counter and the height of your choice, usually about 5 feet or more. We love installing custom mirrors and always provide FREE in-home consultations.
  • Mirrored walls are another specialty service in which free quotes are provided. Do you have a home gym, yoga studio, dance studio, or do you simply want to expand the visual size of a living room, dining room or bedroom? Mirrored walls are elegant and modern. They can turn an average size room into a bigger space with more light reflection.

At Cut Rate Glass, we believe there is no such thing as too many mirrors. The more, the better. Some of our customers will disagree with that notion.

Contact us  for a rough estimate over the phone and have the measurements ready.

Safety Glass For Window Glass Replacement

Safety Glass For Window Glass Replacement

There is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of our friends, family, and pets. With that statement in mind, it is important to become knowledgeable about safety glass when replacing windows and doors. Glass is a dangerous product and proper care should always be used whenever replacing any type of window glass, shower enclosure, or glass door.

Tempered glass is a regular float glass that has been sent through a tempering oven in which it is “cooked” then rapidly cooled. This process causes a molecular reaction to occur and strengthens the glass. The glass is strengthened to approximately four times normal annealed glass. In addition to strengthening the glass, it also causes the glass to shatter into smaller less harmful pieces, should the glass break.

Now you are probably thinking, why is this important? If tempered glass were to break, it crumbles into a million square pieces rather than sharp splinters of glass. The square pieces are less likely to cause any harm. Nevada requires that tempered glass be installed in all doors and windows that are near entrances or near the ground. Tempered glass is used for shower enclosures, patio doors, and windows (single or dual panes).

Showers in Depth

Showers in Depth

In this blog, we would like to dive deeper into the world of showers and review some of the most common layouts of a glass shower enclosure. Designing a new bathroom can be a challenging task and the right layout is very important.

There are also a few things to remember when laying out a new shower:
  • Be sure the tile contractor properly frames the wall with 2×4 studs where the door can be attached to. This will ensure that the door can be properly attached to the wall. We do not do any type of framing or any tile work. We do have companies that we can refer you to who are licensed, bonded and insured just like us. It is very important to always use a company with a Nevada State Contractors license. If you have any questions about who is licensed and who is not, refer to the website www.nvcontractorsboard.com.
  • When possible, it is always best to hinge off a wall and not off the glass. While we do install glass to glass hinges on shower doors, they run into size limitations and additional costs.
  • We use only the highest quality, heavy-duty hinges for all our showers, but there are still size restrictions due to the weight. The door cannot be more than 36 inches wide. So, when designing the layout keep that in mind.
  • Glass comes in many thicknesses for our frameless showers. We offer 3/8 and 1/2-inch-thick glass. The most common is 3/8. Do not be fooled by a thinner, cheaper glass.

When our technicians go out to your home to measure for a shower enclosure, they make sure they measure all the walls including out of square walls properly so the shower glass fits in perfect with no problems. Using a level and a laser projector that shoots a straight red line that helps our technicians to see which walls are out of square and where to measure.
